ABSTRACT
Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y de corte transversal de 300 adultos mayores pertenecientes a un consultorio médico de familia del área de salud "Carlos Juan Finlay", del Municipio Santiago de Cuba, durante el 2011, a fin de caracterizar las personas víctimas del maltrato intrafamiliar en este grupo poblacional. Se utilizó la prueba estadística Ji al cuadrado y el porcentaje como medida de resumen para variables cualitativas. En la serie prevalecieron el sexo femenino, los ancianos con algún grado de discapacidad funcional, el maltrato psicológico y el financiero; en tanto, los familiares, especialmente los hijos, fueron los principales comisores de los hechos.
A descriptive and cross-sectional study of 300 aged belonging to a doctor's office from "Carlos Juan Finlay" health area from Santiago de Cuba Municipality was carried out during the 2011, in order to characterize victims of family abuse in this populational group. The statistical X² test and the percentage as summary measure for qualitative variables were used. In the series the female sex, aged with some degree of functional disability, psychological and financial abuse prevailed, while the relatives, especially the children, were the main perpetrator of the facts.
